Feeling Culturally Ignored

As some of you know, I’m taking Emergency Pastoral Care for my 2-week intensive here at ESR. Also some of you know how I felt at the end of the semester when asked about my Intro. to Pastoral Care class. Well, I’ve come to a conclusion.

I’m feeling culturally ignored (at least in these 2 classes). And I don’t think there’s anything that can be done that will make me feel any different.

oh well….at least this will all end next week.

  1. Thanks for the question Scott.

Mainly, I’m feeling that in all of the readings we’ve had the focus seems to be VERY WASP (in all its varities). We did read one article that dealt with African Americans, but no other minority groups. So I know there’s this whole world out there in terms of pastoral care that we aren’t talking about and really wish we were.

    Hope that answers the question.

  2. I complained to my pastoral care prof — about 1995 — that every textbook reference to a gay person (that is, a gay man) was followed up with a revelation of AIDS and presumptive death. I told him it looked like wish fulfillment. So I get your point.
